South Mountain Community College Student Life & Leadership Director, Landres (Buddy) Cheeks To Be Honored At Awards Gala
Arizona Common Ground (AZCG) will honor South Mountain Community College (SMCC) Student Life and Leadership Director, Landres (Buddy) Cheeks at their First Annual Awards Gala, “A Night of Impact”, on February 21, 2015, 6 – 10 p.m. at the Arizona Biltmore.
Mr. Cheeks will be one of six individuals that will be honored based on the impact that they have made in their communities through their demonstration as engaged citizens, humility and devotion.
Frantz Beasley, President/Co-Founder AZ Common Ground, said “Buddy has been a supportive and collaborative resource to AZCG in their efforts to provide support and services for at-risk youth and adults returning to communities following incarceration.” Through awareness, education, and support services, re-entry youth and adults are able to rebuild their lives and contribute to the safety of our communities.
“The award recognition of Buddy is also an extension to SMCC for the quality of education, services and opportunities provided to students who may have lost hope in life, said Beasley. Our ultimate goal is to prevent crime and advocate for victims of crime within Maricopa County. SMCC and Buddy Cheeks support that goal through their services.”
SMCC President, Dr. Shari Olson said, “Buddy’s dedication to making a difference in our students’ lives is demonstrated through the programs and activities he develops for students as the Director of Student Life and Leadership. He continually looks for ways to educate and involve our students in the areas of community engagement, civic responsibility, leadership and volunteerism.”
