South Mountain Community College & City of Phoenix Host Geology Hike

South Mountain Community College and the City of Phoenix invite you to participate in a community hike on South Mountain where you will gain insight into the geology of the mountain.

On Saturday, November 7, students from Arizona State University and South Mountain Community College will join community members for a 2.2-mile hike led by professors and geologists, Ron Dorn (ASU) and Sian Proctor (SMCC). Participants will learn the basic geology of South Mountain while focusing on the debris fields from 2014 rainfall. More adventurous hikers will have the opportunity to hike up a debris field to see the source catchments – an area where water is collected by the natural landscape.

To register for the hike, visit https://apm.activecommunities.com/phoenix/ and enter course code 7390. The hike is free and limited to 30 participants.

Date: November 7, 2015
Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
