South Mountain Community College Theatre to Present an Original Adaptation of Six Characters in Search of an Author

South Mountain Community College Theatre is proud to present a new adaptation of the absurdist play “Six Characters in Search of an Author” October 29-30 and November 4-6 in the college’s Performing Arts Center.

“Six Characters in Search of an Author” is a comedic absurdist play exploring the relationship between playwrights, their characters, and theatre practitioners.

Local playwright, director and Maricopa Community College instructor, Laurelann Porter, introduces a new adaptation that highlights the clash between the deeply disturbing tragedy and irreverent comedy. As the play unfolds, you will learn what happens when an author abandons his characters before the play was finished and those characters return demanding their stories be told*.

Luigi Pirandello originally wrote the play, which premiered in Italy in 1921 and in America – on Broadway – in 1922.

Admission is free.
