SMCC Offers Three Non-Credit Healthcare Career Programs
Become a Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Technician– Online Orientation Sept. 13
WHAT:
In an ongoing effort to create new career opportunities for Valley residents, South Mountain Community College (SMCC) is proud to announce three health care job training programs.
SMCC, in partnership with Boston Reed College, is now offering courses to train individuals to become Pharmacy Technicians, Clinical Medical Assistants and Phlebotomy Technicians.
Interested students are encouraged to participate in a free online orientation this month, to learn about the requirements and tasks necessary to qualify for these types of positions.
Pharmacy Technicians help pharmacists package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing, and collect payment and coordinate billing.
Clinical Medical Assistants help physicians carry out procedures, care for patients, perform basic lab tests and administer medications.
Phlebotomy Technicians draw blood samples from patients in clinical laboratory or public health settings.

Interested students may participate in a free online orientation session on Thursday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m.

Classes in all three programs will take place as follows:
Pharmacy Technician
September 18 to December 6
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Clinical Medical Assistant
September 17 to January 16
Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Phlebotomy Technician
September 15 to October 20
Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE:
Classes will be held at the SMCC Main Campus, 7050 S. 24th Street, in Phoenix (just north of Baseline Road.)
FEE:
Cost of enrollment, including books and supplies, is as follows:
- Pharmacy Technician: $1,599
- Clinical Medical Assistant: $2,895
- Phlebotomy Technician: $1,995
The orientation session is presented free of charge, with no obligation.
