Following a national search and recruitment, South Mountain Community College (SMCC) has announced the hiring of Dr. Reynaldo Rivera as its new Vice President of Learning.

Dr. Rivera most recently served as an Interim Dean, Division Chair and faculty member at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, Arizona.

He joins SMCC President Dr. Shari Olson, who assumed leadership of the college in 2011.

“We are very excited for Dr. Rivera to take the helm of our academic programs at South Mountain,” stated Dr. Olson. “I believe his energy and vision will lead our college to even greater heights.”

Dr. Rivera has been a professor of mathematics at Estrella Mountain Community College for over 15 years, and served two terms as EMCC Faculty Senate President.

He succeeds previous SMCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Linda Lujan, currently President of Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Helen Smith.

Dr. Rivera assumed his new position on May 14.

South Mountain Community College, one of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges, is located at 7050 S. 24th Street in Phoenix, Arizona, just north of Baseline Road.
